Community Electrification

July 26th, 2015

Transforming Pasig community’s way of life

Over 100 indigent families residing in Villa Evangelista, a compound in Brgy. Palatiw, Pasig City recently benefited from the gift of light given by Meralco and its social arm, the One Meralco Foundation. Aside from energizing households, streetlights were also provided to the community under the Foundationís Community Electrification program.

Bilang tagapag-lingkod ng ating bayan, wala kaming ibang pinangarap kundi itaas ang antas ng buhay ng mga taga-Pasig (As a servant to our community, we donít have any other dream but to improve the quality of living of all Pasig residents),” recounted Barangay Palatiw Chairman Eriberto M. Guevarra.

(Today, Villa Evangelista has improved a lot. The light we received produced a chain reaction. With the street lights installed, we can expect less or no crimes happening in our streets. The light we have at our homes will greatly aid our children and grandchildren to study even at night),” he added, narrating how the light will benefit the community.

Pasig City Mayor Robert “Bobby” C. Eusebio agreed to this sentiment as he shared: “Napakasuwerte ng mga taga-Villa Evangelista dahil maayos na ang kanilang kalagayan. May mga pathways na dito hindi tulad ng dati. At higit sa lahat, mayroon na ring kuryente na mula sa Meralco at One Meralco Foundation (Residents of Villa Evangelista are very lucky because they now have a better stature in life. Unlike before, we now have pathways. And most of all, we now have electricity in our homes given by Meralco and One Meralco Foundation.)”

Now that we have electricity, we should take care of these electrical facilities. We should work hand in hand to look after and enrich the blessings we received. We should help ourselves to uplift our own lives),” said Hon. Bobby, reminding and inspiring every Villa Evangelista resident to be responsible stewards of the gift of light.

Present during the community launch were the Meralco contingent led by One Meralco Foundation president and Meralco chief CSR officer Jeffrey O. Tarayao, Meralco Pasig Business Center head Jaime R. Gavida Jr. and Meralco Central Logistics head Rolando C. Cuico with Mayor Eusebio, Brgy. Chairman Guevarra and other representatives from the Pasig LGU.

“Energizing homes is our way of contributing to our aspiration of building a stronger and brighter nation. We aim to bring light to communities to give its members the opportunity to improve their lives,” shared Tarayao.

To date, One Meralco Foundationís Community Electrification Program has benefited over 7,000 households situated in Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Quezon, Rizal and Bulacan. The foundation has also lighted up a rural health clinic in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan, a farm irrigation system in San Miguel, Bulacan, and six public schools in the island community of Verde Island in Batangas City.
