One Meralco wins CSR excellence in Washington DC

As the only Asian organization recognized under the Social Good category of the USA-based PR News Access Intelligence’s Annual CSR Awards, Meralco’s social development arm, the One Meralco Foundation (OMF), brought home the pride as it receives an honourable mention award for its School Electrification program in Isla Verde, Batangas. Today, the 1,019 elementary students enrolled in the six public schools in the island community have a better learning environment giving them more opportunities for growth and development.

Organizations shortlisted in the Social Good category are those which have strategically integrated CSR in their business and use its core competencies in creating social good and sustainability. Joining OMF under the category are Energy Corporation, Saucony, Greif Inc. and MSLGroup North America, Henry Schein, Inc., The Hershey Company, and The Walt Disney Company.

“To be recognized in a global awards program like this greatly motivates us more to do better and continuously improve and innovate the way we do CSR in Meralco,” said Meralco chief CSR officer and OMF president Jeffrey O. Tarayao who recently received the award at the National Press Club in Washington DC, USA. “But more than the awards we receive, it will always be the smiles on the faces of the people we have assisted and empowered that will be the most meaningful recognition we will ever receive,” continued Tarayao.
